If Derek Jeter put on
five or six more pounds nothing hit to the left side of the infield could
squeeze by him, eliminating the need for a third baseman altogether. The Yankees haven’t
had a fully functional third sacker in several years and won’t get one in Kevin
Youkilis; an ‘enlarged’ presence at short is a low-cost step forward.
